Bullying in your workplace

I was just reviewing some research material on bullying in the workplace. It struck me that this information was more than 5 years old and yet we still are experiencing the same issues and don't genuinely seem to have progressed towards effectively addressing this issue. 

Does your grievance policy allow for power imbalance?

Nearly every organisation has its own grievance policy and process for employees as the first level of managing conflict. Typically, the proposition these policies aim for is to encourage anyone who finds themselves in a conflict with a work colleague, to try to resolve the conflict with the other party themselves.

What is the costs of conflict to your business and what do you do about it?

Conflict within the workplace is common.  People will not always see eye to eye on issues, some are poor communicators, some are more competitive than others, some don’t like to be told about different ways to approach a task and sometimes people just don’t like each other.

The Four corners episode ‘Facing the Music’ (11October 2021) showed an incredible circumstance of alleged workplace abuse led by the CEO within Sony Music Australia. It is a story of how ‘fear and intimidation stalked the corridors for decades’ and yet nothing was done about it.
